Pinecrest is a beautiful suburban village that resides in Miami-Dade County. Unlike most areas, Pinecrest is governed by a five-member Village Council that operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The area that would become Pinecrest initially began in the 1900s when Miami railroad tycoon Henry Flagler used property at U.S1 and Southwest 102 Street for staging during the construction of the Overseas Railroad to the Florida Keys. The area would start to grow more and more during the 1930s, based on a famous tourist attraction that was growing rapidly, Parrot Jungle and Gardens. Established in 1936, and now a worldwide tourist attraction, Parrot Jungle saw guests like Sir Winston Churchill and many other famous names. Over time, Pinecrest would take Parrot Jungle and turn it into a new site under the name Pinecrest Gardens which was moved to a new waterfront location on Watson Island. Over time, Pinecrest has developed into an affluent and beautiful community, even outside of all it has to offer tourists.
Pinecrest gets the typical Florida experience with high heats and high humidity stretching throughout the year. Very rarely does the temperature drop beneath fifty degrees Fahrenheit. The most humid months tend to be June through August, and the precipitation is noticeable. Pinecrest can also experience heavy rainfall and occasional thunderstorms, which rarely leads to flooding from the nearby bodies of water.
